A brand new identity for tattoo royalty

One of Proper’s most exciting collaborations of 2014 happened when the world’s most renowned fine/tattoo artist and designer Jun Cha reached out for us to brand his new creative studio based in Downtown Los Angeles. Through Monarc, Jun’s vision is to elevate fine/tattoo art to a luxury positioning by merging the artistic mediums of tattoo, art and photography to create a new unique art form.
Our brief was to create a simple, masculine and timeless identity for Monarc, using the 4 stage life-cycle of the Monarc butterfly as inspiration. The studio’s launch event in January 2015 attracted 500+ of the most influential players in the creative and entertainment industries and became a media frenzy as Jun premiered his fine/tattoo art and Monarc’s studio launch video.
